Remember the clove cigarette?

Djarum-blacks-kretek

It was approximately the Fall of 2000 and the Clove cigarette hit the Atlanta University Center campus…hard. It was not unusual to slip out of class and find four or five of your friends having a puff or two. Matter fact, it wasn’t at all odd to go outside without your own and just ask anyone around if they had a Clove.

Not a cigarette, but a clove. Because we thought they were different.

As a matter of fact, if you found yourself in the Hard Rock Cafe, Esso, or even at a house party in The Villages of East Lake, you probably spent the currency that was the Clove. Cloves became apart of the regularly exchanged commerce system, you could get a ride home, a drink, or even borrow a stack of DVDs if you were willing to pony up a clove or two. What we didn’t realize was that we were opening the gateway to actual, real life smoking.

Apparently the government has caught on. They are trying to save our children one sweet flavored cigarette butt at a time. Look at the recent ban on clove cigarettes.
